The New Deanery residential care home have been heaped with praise by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following an unannounced inspection. The Braintree care home, under the ownership of Sonnet Care Homes, has been rated as ‘outstanding’ for leadership and ‘good’ in all other aspects covering care, safety, effectiveness and responsiveness.

“The team at The New Deanery works tirelessly to provide impeccable 24 hour care for our residents, and while we were confident that significant improvements had been made since the last report in 2014 we are absolutely delighted that CQC has confirmed this with such a positive report.
“Since receiving recognition for our leadership and management in the form of a national win at the Skills for Care Accolades Awards in March, we have been asked to speak at a number of industry conferences about the processes we have implemented.
“Receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating for leadership from CQC for our well-led service further supports that what we are doing is correct. Our Home Manager, Jane Sadowski, deservedly received glowing reports for the work she has done in transforming the quality of care. The high quality of our training, underpinned by our motto of Kindness, Comfort and Respect, was also highlighted.”
The latest CQC report is packed full of positive comments about all aspects of the care home’s services. It stated: “It was apparent from our observation of interaction between management and people who use the service that there was a homely atmosphere, genuine warmth expressed, lots of laughter and openness to people’s request for support. Staff were compassionate and caring and people felt staff listened to and involved them.”
Catering at the residential care home has previously been recognised as high quality with the team picking up the The Care Home Nutrition and Hydration Award at The Great British Care Awards’ East of England Region in December last year. The home has a top 5-star food hygiene rating.
The report further confirmed this, stating: “The catering team were enthusiastic and proud of their achievements in providing suitable food for people.”
One resident was quoted in the CQC report as saying:
“The food is lovely here, always well presented. If you don’t like something they find you something else.”
The New Deanery has a team in place to organise activities for residents such as music events, barbecues, parties in the beautiful 10-acre garden and trips to the local community.
In the report, a relative of a resident told the inspectors: “One of the beauties of this home is the quality of activities provided. My relative loves them because at home they were lonely but here they have lots of stimulation and opportunities to socialise with others.”
In April this year St Mary’s Court, the sister care home of The New Deanery was also rated ‘good’ overall by the CQC, with a rating of ‘outstanding’ for leadership.
Julia said: “We are so proud that both The New Deanery and St Mary’s Court have been recognised positively by the CQC we believe that our teams and homes thoroughly deserve to be acknowledged in this way.”
